I had to risk being marked as “non-rehireable” just to get paid out properly upon quitting.

I recently secured a new job that is basically doubling up on everything is positive for me and also scoring me unlimited PTO along the way. Total dream job. My old job specifically was a veritable training ground for competitors and adjacent industries. 1-2 years in the role was basically a locked in ticket to a better job elsewhere. The problem was my most recent employer is a total piece of shit with regard to withholding wages, potential wage theft and absolutely refuses to pay out banked PTO when people quit. On top of firing people turning in two weeks notice. As you can expect this leads to workers burning PTO and quitting on pay day with no 2 weeks notice. The boss's solution? Fire the next person who locks in 2 weeks straight of PTO to avoid repeating the past. Rather than just address that we paid shit wages…

The boss's solution? Fire the next person who locks in 2 weeks straight of PTO to avoid repeating the past. Rather than just address that we paid shit wages and engaged in unethical and probably illegal bullshit to try and chain people to the company he thought up that great idea.

Whelp I was that next guy, I knew through the grapevine what his genius plan was and just said fuck it.

I burned 1 week of PTO months ago, then upon accepting the new job I had to schedule 1 week of PTO that would over lap with my second week at the new job.

Then said fuck it and during my first week at the new job would use Unexpected PTO ( another arbitrary time off bank) and hoped they wouldn't catch on.

Am I going to be marked as non rehireable in work number? Probably but fuck it I couldn't risk being fired when putting in my two weeks and wasn't going to let them fuck me out of my last check either.
