I was supervising 1 of our 3 inmates currently in the hospital. Each of these inmates were Covid positive which we didn’t get informed of until we approached the door of our inmate and saw the warnings plastered all over the door. To make matters worse the officers we relieved were dropped off and had to take the transport van we drove to the hospital which essentially stranded us. Towards the end of our shift we were informed the other inmate who was still very ill with Covid was going to be released and instead of sending us back with our relieving officers transport van we were told to ride back with the other 2 officers and the sick inmate. A transport van only has room for 2 officers up front which meant we would have had to ride in the back of the van with a female inmate for a 40 minute car ride and no cameras allowing this inmate to make any accusations of abuse or sexual assault and because of no cameras in the van we would’ve instantly been placed under an inspector general’s investigation. When we contacted our captain to try to figure out a solution he told us “ride with the inmate or walk back”. I hate my job.
