I hate how “office culture” poisons job environments

My boss and coworkers are relatively nice people. But I don’t want to be friends with them. Both work days this week my boss has pulled me and the other full-time employees into her office so she can update us on a surprise party were planning for some part-time employees. Urging everyone to volunteer their time and money to buy gifts for them because they’re leaving. No, I don’t want to do that. Frankly, I don’t care that the part-time employees are leaving, and I don’t think they’ll be that hurt if I don’t get them a $10 gift from Walmart because I don’t think they’ll remember me in a year or two. My job made me go back to the office full time last April, and after working from home it’s just so inefficient. For example, today I would’ve been in the office 9 hours plus 30 minute commute…

For example, today I would’ve been in the office 9 hours plus 30 minute commute there and back for an hour and a half of work. I used sick time to leave after my last appointment of the day because I felt like I would rip my hair out.

All the other full-time employees in my office are basically Boomers, they love walking around and talking about how “it’s so windy today. Much worse than yesterday.” I DON’T CARE!!! Every work meeting or conversation has to take 45 minutes to talk it to death when I’d rather be working from home, because at least then I could save on these ridiculous gas prices, save wear and tear on my car, eat fresh healthier meals at home instead of having to pack stuff that will keep to take with me.

It’s just so frustrating because we saw that it was inefficient, but because Boomers run everything and they like exerting control we just “go back to normal.”
