The way I see it, the whole point of AI and automation is to free humans from menial tasks and unskilled jobs so we can TRULY contribute something to the world instead of doing mindless, repetitive, automatable work. Because the one thing we can do that can't be automated is create, and NOBODY has no talent at all. But instead of using modern tools with a view to reinvesting the money saved through technology in humanity to uplift everyone from the bottom up the wealth is hoarded, which ultimately screws us all because who knows what talent we're letting slip through the cracks of capitalism because they're tied to worthless jobs or are otherwise denied opportunity.
It's like dude, if you can get a machine to pick all the grapes and now you don't need people to do that why not invest that savings in training workers for better positions that could truly bring value to your company instead of laying them off? Or reinvesting in society at large through funding education or housing or whatever is required for everyone to live with dignity? Or, (gasp!!) letting people just not do anything at all and leave them free to explore and pursue their pleasures. The system is so mindless and just utterly frustrates me. We don't put enough value on human talent, much less human dignity. Nobody should have to be doing backbreaking labor that a machine can do but that definitely shouldn't mean that you now have “nothing to contribute” and deserve to starve. When did we allow hoarding instead of giving back to society to become the thing to do?
