I'm currently on a summer job in a touristy country in Europe. My job involves dealing with customers, both locals and tourists.
I work at the same job for more than 5 years (summers) and have seen the worst in annoying customers and rude bosses.
Customers that don't agree with something start shouting like idiots, and immediately get superiority complex over you, and you the worker, have to stand there and just accept it, you can't call him out, you can't tell him to calm down, just stay there and accept it while he belittles you, all for the sake to look “professional” and to not offend and be rude to the already offensive and rude customer. Getting complains from customers is very demoralizing and at times affects my mental health. Some coworkers of mine have developed a cold heart to those situations but to me, it really drains me emotionally.
And when it comes to bosses, they expect so much from you while paying you MINIMUM WAGE, speak 4 different languages, carry heavy weights, stay in the hot sun, deal with money, deal with annoying customers, work overtime, having to deal with long hours of crunch, all of that for minimum wage!!! And they are always constantly watching over your shoulder too, which I really don't like.
Also, they make so much money, like ridiculous amounts, have inflated prices for the tourists, while once again, they pay minimum wage…
This year I had enough, it will be my last at this job, if I'm such a great asset to the company, then maybe pay me more, at least for 5 consecutive summers of work. I'm done dealing with rude customers and shitty bosses.
