I've been working for a metal fabrication company ($18/hr) mostly grinding and sanding. I love what I do, love the people I work with, even my manager. But God dammit I have young kids AND both my wife and I have to work, so when they get sick I have to sometimes, yknow, be a good fucking parent and take care of them, and then I get sick (doy!) And tbh I will work if I can, and I'll even stay late (12 hr shifts) and come in on weekends to make up for it, because in the past I've been pulled aside by UPPER management (the owner) and tod that we're REALLY behind and we need more overtime from you. And I HAVE made considerable effort to make the 20 extra hours per paycheck, I actually did it quite recently too.
Well yesterday the owner comes and talks to me and basically says that since I can't seem to make overtime I am on the chopping block with 2 other guys.
Well. I finished my shift (4pm-4:30am) went home, slept on it, had a discussion with my wife, drove over to my dad's to borrow his trailer, took it into work (late lol) and walked up to my manager.
Me: hey, how's it going?
Him: good, how are you?
M: I quit
H: what?
M:I quit
H: oh, why?
M: randy (the owner)
H: I'm acting surprised but I'm not, I figured when you didn't text me about being late, I talked with him about what he said to you and I don't agree with it at all.
M: thanks man, yeah it's good pay here, I love what I did, I loved working with all of you, especially you (21), cuz usually when I have a manage who's younger than me (30) they tend to be more arrogant but I've always appreciated your style.
We hugged twice.
