I have accepted and been waiting to start a job since March. They just told me they are no longer hiring me.

I applied for a job back in February, went through three interviews, and was offered a position with the understanding that I wouldn't be able to begin training for said job until May. I was unable to get unemployment during this time. At the end of April, I received an email saying that training was being pushed until June. I started to panic, since our lease ends in June and I need money to move. I said I'm willing to wait, while applying for other jobs in the meantime. I started delivering food, but the cost of gas has pretty much made making money from that impossible. I can't tell you how many jobs I've applied to. Restaurants, bars, retail, remote. There were a lot of jobs I was sure I wouldn't get but many I thought I would at least get a call back for. I got one. They…

I got one. They lied about how much money they paid and the benefits, along with many other factors, so I didn't take it.

Last week, I emailed HR to check in and say how much I was looking forward to starting. I got a response back today, and an hour later, got an email saying they would no longer hire me because of my background report results. The only thing I have on my background report is failing to stop at a stop sign, five years ago. (This also infuriated me because the cop tailed me for five minutes before pulling me over for expired tags. I didn't even know he wrote it as a stop sign violation until I got this report back.)

I had a feeling this was going to happen, but I continued to hold out hope because the hours, pay, and benefits are amazing. I just don't understand how a company can essentially lead me on for FOUR MONTHS, only to deny me employment, supposedly because of my background check. I'm pretty sure it's just because they spent millions on a new office campus and spent their money less wisely than they should have. I live in Ohio, an at-will state, so I'm sure there's nothing I can do. Every day in this shit hole country has been deteriorating my mental health, and this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

TL;DR: I got accepted for a job back in February. They kept pushing off my start date and now, four months later, they tell me they aren't hiring me because I have a stop sign violation on my background check.

Edit: I can't change the title, but I was actually offered the position on February 11th of this year.
