I have friends who text stuff like this at me. How do you respond when you hear this sort of thing?

My response is usually “Many jobs don’t pay a living wage. If people spend above their means it might be for lifesaving medications or to keep the heat on so they don’t freeze. Yes people can opt to leave but there aren’t a lot of options or time to make a switch which is why people are living in their cars.”
