I helped the DA successfully prosecute my old employer in a class action lawsuit

So this place I used to work for was just the worst. They were an app and idea development company that took advantage of anyone with money and a dream. Several clients invested their life savings or retirement funds with them, as they had been convinced that their honestly terrible ideas were guaranteed successes, and that the company had inside connections with several big box retailers and a team of pro developers. They absolutely did not. They also claimed they were making great progress on developing their apps when they hadn't even been started on yet. We're talking about apps that clients had payed them 20k or more to make in some cases. When I told my boss I had several issues with the way they did things I was told that “I shouldn't let my morals get in the way of good business”, and that “I wasn't seeing the whole picture as a lower level employee”. I started being 100% honest with the clients and when this was discovered, I was fired.

Shortly afterwards, I was contacted by the state district attorney and asked if I could help contribute information towards a class action suit in an attempt at getting some of the clients their money back. There was a prolonged legal battle that the owner tried various ways to squirm out of…the most ridiculous one being a claim that Russian hackers had erased their centralized app database right before they were able to send the completed apps to their customers…they had no such database! The CEO even gave an interview about the dangers of hacking around the time of this lie ..such absurdly transparent bullshit.

I am proud to say that in the end they were declared culpable and on the hook for all the money they had wrongly taken . Of course, the owners of the company always presented as “good Christians” and “a family more than a company”. They were so delusional I bet even after losing the lawsuit they still saw themselves as victims.

Anyway, I truly hope everyone they ripped off gets every penny back and more. Never work for any idea development companies, as I am almost certain they are all as sleazy as the one I was unfortunate enough to get hired at.
