I was going to work for this company that does all sorts of business, from studio recording to motor works. During the interview process, I felt off about working for them in the first place, but decided that I really needed a job and I'd just take their job while continuing to search for another.
Well, I got an offer from another company today that is entirely remote for the same pay.
I let the original company know today that I would not be working with them and explained the conditions of the new job, just to give them a chance to offer more money if they wanted.
They responded by sending a calendar invite to schedule my HR Orientation.
So I sent the same email again, notifying them that I would not be taking the position.
They responded and said that letting them know a day before my start date was unprofessional and that they spent time and money getting me set up to work with them.
They also told me to send back the welcome box they sent to me since it's for the person taking the position.
My question is, can I just not respond to their emails and keep the merch? I don't actually want it, but I also don't want to go through the hassle of shipping the box back. I never signed anything saying I would send back the merch if I chose to leave.
