So I (24m) started my first server job about 2 weeks ago. I gave them my availability, and they took that as me wanting to work every single one of the days I said I was available.
I did a single, and 2 doubles in 3 days to finish my training. So I’ve had about 5 or 6 shifts as an unsupervised waiter since then.
Tuesday, I had an incident and I cut my lip open pretty badly. I didn’t realized how bad it was until Wednesday morning.
I go into work and around 2 o’clock a guest was like “Hey man… you have like, blood running down your face…”
I excuse myself, run to the bathroom and see that there is blood obviously running from my lip to my neck. I look at the cut and it’s a lot worse than I thought. I held a piece of paper towel between the side of my lips while wearing a mask so it wouldn’t continue bleeding.
I find the GM and inform him that I have a cut that’s open and I need to go to an ER to try and get stitches and make sure my lip doesn’t become infected as it’s a white meat deep kinda cut. He says yea that’s fine, I can leave at 2:30 but I need to be back by 5. (I’m working a double)
2:30 comes around and I’m about to clock out and head to the ER, suddenly I have a coworker tell me I need to do my side work before I can leave. I tell her I got approval from our GM and that it’s an emergency.
She says she doesn’t care and I need to do my side work and roll silverware just like everyone else, so I say whatever okay.
I finally clock out at about 3:10 or something, head to an ER and I’m told theirs a wait of 3+ hours. I call another with the same answer.
So I go to Walgreens and get some peroxide, Neosporin, and a couple of other things to try and clean it up before going back to work.
I get back at about 5:15 and a supervisor/manager (idk) asks me what time I was supposed to be back, and I said 5 but I had an emergency. He said he doesn’t care, I should have been back at 5 or have called to let someone know.
I was pretty furious because no one is taking this seriously. I continued to mention that this could become be a health hazard for customers, if it were to start bleeding again, but still no one cares.
So the rest of the night, I did my job without question, except a new manager comes in during that shift and is totally throwing me off by the way she operates everything.
Causing me to get to all my tables late because I’m constantly running everyone else’s food and bussing their tables.
I did end up making some snarky comments and in general being pretty rude to that specific manager and coworker, but I was as kind as a butterfly to the guests and everyone else.
But it’s as if me bleeding out on the job meant nothing, to anyone. I was just pissed.
I even at one point apologized to her explaining that I’m injured and not in the best of moods because of how unprofessional everyone was being about the situation.
She asked if I wanted to leave early and I said yeah. I finish my side work and leave.
I come back today and one manager who usually is a smart ass is like hey how was your off day and blah blah.
Then another GM sees me and is like hey you can’t work today and need to go home. I say alright and I leave.
I was walking through the parking lot and he runs out and is like hey, the other manager (that was surprisingly nice for a second) just reminded me that you’re actually terminated.
So he takes my apron and I leave.
No reason given, no paper work, no warning, no anything. Just cut.
I kinda needed this job and I’m not sure how to go about this.
