I Just Quit My Job!

I work for HomeGoods which is a TJX company (Marshalls, TJMaxx, HomeSense and Sierra Trading Post). Well I should say workED for them! What an awful company. During the Christmas season last November we were severely understaffed. The workers that we had were worked to the absolute bone (with no overtime however) and asked to do ridiculous things. We would get 5 to 6 full semi trucks per week. The trucks would have anywhere from 1500 to 2000 pieces in them ranging from small boxes all the way up to couches and large pieces of furniture. ONE PERSON worked on the truck. Unloaded the entire thing into a stockroom filled to capacity with 5 to 6 workers opening every box, labelling every item in each box and categorizing the items before putting them on “tanks” to be moved into the sales floor which was also filled beyond capacity. There were 3 or 4 workers to flow what was on the tanks onto the sales floor. The store was a mess and we were expected to work in this nonsense. The back room had boxes piled up to 10 feet high. We had to climb on top of other boxes or just toss boxes into a huge pile just to get things off the truck and this was a daily thing. Wage for this was $11 an hour. I found out that new hires were walking in at $12 an hour. I let everyone know. We were all beyond pissed. Some of the people I worked with had been there for years and they were making $11.20 the top lady I knew was there for 7 years and she made $11.40. This went on til 2 weeks before Christmas which at that point everyone was bumped to just $12. Didn't matter how long u were there. After Christmas we received a $75 bonus and were told by management that we had surpassed previous years sales by 1.2 million at our store and deserved a “pat on the back”. I touched it out as long as I could because I have a wedding coming up and have a honeymoon planned so I didn't want to look for a new job and immediately ask for time off. The last month tho I have torn my rotator cuff and have been having wrist problems from lifting furniture and bulk items by myself. We are still also under a mandatory mask mandate which absolutely drives me insane as every other retail business in the area has moved to optional months ago. I finally had my breaking point today. I can't do it anymore. My time and health are worth more to me than $12 an hour. I have found an amazing job doing night cleaning and I don't have to answer to anyone but myself. I work til the job is done and I go home or I stay and do extra work if I want extra money. I love it. So goodbye HomeGoods. Actually good riddance!
