First things first. I'm under 18 and consider myself privileged for my parents to be financially stable. I by no means need a job but with college being fucking expensive even with scholarships I got a job anyway. I'm too young to be “anti work”as I do not need to work in order to live so I don't really know if this fits
Now for the story: I got a job at my local waterpark last year and lucked out to work with great people. Today was opening day for said waterpark. Got there today, my lead assigned me to a slide. Everything was going smooth until I was on top of the second tallest slide tower in the park with 4 of my coworkers and we hear thunder off in the distance. We are quickly loading people into tubes while we wait to hear the whistle signaling that we are closing all the slides. We close ( the attractions) for about 45 minutes planning on opening back up. The storm is not gone when I head back up to the tallest slide tower which gets struck by lightning at least twice every year. So I'm sitting at the top of this slide and can see lighting off in the distance. I whistle down to my lead and she gives me the thumbs up. I'm listening to this storm and watching it. This is when I had my “oh shit moment” I'm sitting at the top of a slide by myself risking getting struck by lightning FOR THIRTEEN DOLLARS AN HOUR. Keep in Mind there was no reason for me to be up there as they still weren't letting guests on the slides. They eventually called me back down but it took way longer than it should have. I love my job and the people I work with but this really made me question whether or not I wanted to stick with the job or apply for a higher paying lifeguard position at an indoor pool.
Rant over I guess. I'll delete this if this dosent fit the sub
