Basically, I just graduated in computer science and most of the positions that I’m interviewing for are starting out at 80k minimum for entry level. I have had 5 interviews this week and more next week. So I’m not in a rush.
This recruiter calls me and tells me they’re looking for 3-5 years experience as a consultant and Software developer but that since my projects are good they’d be willing to work with that. He asked me for what I’m looking for. So I asked him for the range first. This man had the audacity to be offended and to tell me the range for 3-5 years developing software + also being a consultant is 65k-70k. That for me being new I shouldn’t expect anywhere near that and it would be a great opportunity to kickstart my career.
I just laughed and said “if I had that kind of experience, I would be asking for double that. Good luck on finding what you’re looking for” and I hung up. It felt soooo good. I didn’t spend hundreds of hours studying, building projects, reading books, doing coding challenges and internships aside from school to earn 40k and not be able to afford basic living expenses.
At that point I’d rather instacart than do all of that work for so little pay.
Know your worth, even if you’re just starting out. Some recruiters are scum. I also read the reviews for that particular recruiting company and all of them are bad.
