Every house that isn't GHASTLY is snatched up instantly. I see houses go on market to rent and they have 50 applications within an hour.
We both have great credit and the background check of a boring nun. No evictions, flawless payment histories. We just want a half decent place to live. I see houses I wouldn't pay 1600 for going for 4000. I just got a 6 goddamn dollar an hour raise and I still can't afford to live here.
Some want first month, last month, full months rent security deposit, 200 admin fee, 50 application fee… all up front.

We can't find a place to buy. We can't find a place to rent. Everything is absolutely ridiculously overpriced. Rents across the board spiked 30% in the last year anyways. I pay rental application fees only to find the property is long gone, they just 'forgot' to update the listing. I'm about $500 deep in application fees this month alone. Hours and whole days spent doing applications and spent on the phone.
I speak with realtors who deal with realtor companies who deal with rental companies to deal with landlords. So much god damn insulation between me and the dude I'm paying money to full of rude professional assholes who's job it seems is to obfuscate misdirect and just flat out ignore my questions.
I have had multiple applications for the same property through successive websites including one of my favorites that wanted access to my goddamn bank account to verify my income and had a questionnaire that took three hours to complete. I feel like Batman and the CIA tag teaming couldn't have gotten much more information out of me.
They want my bosses number and email. So they can harass him and jeopardize my career to make sure I have the job I submit bank statements and pay stubs for.
