I worked at an automotive warehouse that is run by some of the dumbest people on the planet. I won’t name it because I have family still working there and it’s depressing to hear that it’s considered one of the better jobs in the area. They started allowing music when Covid hit and didn’t mandate masks until months after lockdowns started and hit record sales during that time while forcing everyone to work 50hrs for a whole year. I stayed with them for 3 years far longer than I should have. I’m not sure why I convinced myself to work so long. Some of my family have mental health issues and what I know I have is adhd and probably some other things. I was not having a good morning at all and immediately got yelled at about my bone conduction headphones which are acceptable in most places that don’t allow regular headphones. I told my supervisor to write me up and she left then hours later she brought me to the office where they tried to write me up before I quit.
So music starts during Covid to cheer people up. Then they ban headphones for the whole warehouse because one department has to work around forklifts. I bring in my bone conduction headphones to show how they work and that they don’t go in ear so hearing isn’t an issue. They deny them because they look “too much like headphones” which is the dumbest excuse because they can’t comprehend any new technology and it addresses all the concerns that I was told about normal headphones. I bring in a speaker in a bag and then they introduced a no bag policy which I got the ok by one of the brothers who own the company months later I get denied that and almost have a meltdown crying. I decide to get a tool belt to put it in because I’m not going to torture myself listening to the noisy conveyors all day. I get complaints and written up for how loud the speaker is (mostly by someone who isn’t even on the same shift) and decide to start bringing the headphones and told I can use them by the manager at the time because I wore them and just didn’t use them (turn them on). Then I get more complaints about both for the same reasons and I’m using loop earplugs to help with I think are sensory issues with the conveyors which get so loud now. It is absolutely stupid that they offer earplugs to us but don’t allow headphones! I just try to not annoy people but still get complaints about my speaker. Which leads me to just start using the bone conduction again and they threaten to write me up. I got a 3 day 12 hr shift and recently lost a premium that was going on during busy season so I was working for less pay and I was planning on getting a job lined up to see if they would give me a raise that wasn’t crap because I get some of the top numbers out of all of the shifts. The only things keeping me there was the 4 day weekend and music so when I was told that I was getting a final warning AND I would temporarily not be allowed any music I quit on the spot. People should be the most important and come before policy. As long as the work gets done and there isn’t any harm to people employers should not care how it gets done. I won’t be surprised if I hear that the place takes a major loss due to someone sabotaging them not because of the things they worry about like sharing prices and secrets with competitors but because someone has enough of there crap and cuts one of the many easily accessible cables or someone who knows even basic programming burning their terribly made system to the ground. Also they say the automation they are implementing won’t lose anyone their jobs but I doubt it. I hate cars anyway r/fuckcars
