I quit my poker dealer job when the house was already short on staff

This happened a few years ago but i found this sub today and thought the story would fit right in. A little bit of context: i was transferring from one university to another(in another state) and had to wait for 8 months for my new semester to start(the university was fixing the schedule after a 5 months teacher strike), so i had some time to kill. I was already good at dealing cards since i always did so whenever me and my friends played, so i took the job just to earn some income while waiting on the transfer. Anyway, dealing poker is a pain in the ass, players verbally abusing dealers for bad luck, low wages(i was making a little above minimum wage in brazil, which is about $1.5/hour, and no, i'm not kidding) and generally a bad place to work, no benefits, they didn't even provide food…

Anyway, dealing poker is a pain in the ass, players verbally abusing dealers for bad luck, low wages(i was making a little above minimum wage in brazil, which is about $1.5/hour, and no, i'm not kidding) and generally a bad place to work, no benefits, they didn't even provide food for 10-15hours work days(my worst day was a saturday event that started ad 3pm and ended 9am the following day). I was fed up with the work and my boss was really shitty.

One day i had had 3 hours of sleep, had really bad pain in my legs, and was in a very shitty mood, so i called a coworker to cover my shift, and told my boss i would work until he showed up to replace me, and he gave me the go-ahead. When the tournament was about to start, my replacement was already on location, so i was outside talking with some friends right before leaving, and the boss comes out and started screaming at everyone because he wanted people to already be seated at the table(he was right, the other dealers were slacking, but he shouldn't have screamed). he then told me i should go to the table as well, and i told him my replacement was already there and i was going home. He said that i had to work that day and that i couldn't leave, so i just shook his hand, said “it was nice working with you” and left. He got fired a few months after.
