I refuse to take another person’s shift.

I work the third shift, and there’s only one other third shift shift worker. We are understaffed. It’s expected if one person can’t make it, the other will take the shift. I refuse to do this. I work a second job, and my body requires sleep and rest. The only other overnighter is new and just started. She’s only been here for 2 weeks. She has called in sick twice now because “she hasn’t been sleeping.” Been there. Done that. Third shift is a hell of an adjustment and it’s not easy on your mind or body. When she messages me I either don’t answer or I tell her I can’t. If my boss ever attempts to pressure me I told myself I will just quit. It’s my bosses’ job to find staffing, and it’s not my job to rearrange my sleep schedule, other work schedule, or social life to…

Has anyone else become the asshole employee that refuses to pick up shifts? I used to be so accommodating in my early 20’s, but I’m not interested in being a team player anymore. I just want to work my assigned shifts and then go home.
