I Shouldn’t Get In Trouble For Not Being Excited To Help People

It's 7am. My first customers are rude and barely say hello. They order tedious things while I'm trying to set up for the day. They don't say please or thank you, or leave a tip. That's fine. It's early and I'm not fully “there” yet. A few hours later, the phone rings. My boss comes over and tells me a customer this morning wasn't happy with my attitude. It's not that I was rude, but I “wasn't excited to see them. I didn't give the expected warm and friendly welcome.” I was told to put in a little more effort with people. Dude. It's early, and I'm being treated like a robot. I'm burnt out, overworked and miserable as I bust my ass for barely minimum wage. So what if I'm not shitting rainbows to help these people? The customer AND my work should be happy somebody shows up at all, understands the job, and still kind of cares.
