So. At 19, chose Cancer. Being a line cook didn't have breaks for non-smokers. Hell. In 8 hour shifts, in the Seven years as a cook, in 10 or so different restaurants, I don't remember ever actually getting a scheduled “lunch break”. Most of those 7 years I also kept 2 line cook jobs just to pay bills…nearly got fired for attempting to Unionize a place I worked at towards the end of my cooking life. Then they offered management with a literal “US vs THEM” verbally stamped on the end. I quit and got a job as a longshoreman. Non Union small company but an incredible owner who was consistently showing up to jobs to help his crew. Consistently giving his best workers raises and/or “easy” jobs for their efforts…thanks for the inspiration Clayton.
Anyway. 20 years later. Deciding to quit tobacco again and just ranting a bit.
