So I worked for a durable medical equipment company for a little over a year. As we are considered to be in the healthcare/medical industry we go over HIPAA extensively. I had already had some issues as to how they took me becoming pregnant and this was truly the last straw.
We had a Covid breakout in the office in late February and of course I got it. I had started showing small symptoms that morning in the office and as soon as I did I told my manager I was going to go for the day to get tested and would let them know the results.
It took a little arguing but I was ultimately able to leave. I went and tested and it was positive, so I did what I said I was gonna do and sent a screenshot of the test results to my team group chat, mostly because I wanted anyone in direct contact with me to go get tested. I later got a private text from my supervisor harshly reprimanding me and letting me know it was “against HIPAA” to share MY medical info with the team.
Needless to say I only had about a month left until my due date so I played nice and the night before I was scheduled to return from maternity leave I gave them my notice via email I would not be returning. They never emailed me back directly but per my coworker/buddy they were SO pissed.
Regrets? None.
