I still have the key to the place I was fired from almost a year ago

Just have a funny experience I thought I'd share. I worked at a bar for almost 4 years and became the assistant manager after about 8 months. In that time, I trained 3 different General Managers. The last one being the one who fired me because he thought I wanted his position. I became close with both owners (it was family owned) and worked my ass off for the business. Turns out, the owners did not know my boss was planning on firing me. A few days after I was let go, one of the owners texted me and asked me to meet with him. The owner asked me what happened and told me how he thought everything was fine between myself and the GM. I said I thought so too, but explained how he was also on my ass a lot more than usual the past couple weeks. Turns…

Turns out, the owner had been on the GM's ass too for around the same period of time. Even the owner told me “I think he was intimidated”. I told him I appreciate everything he has done for me, and that I'm glad I finally saw the GM's true colors because, as much as I loved working for the owners, I would not want to work for someone who doesn't respect me. (The GM told me that since he was my boss it didn't matter how he spoke to me.)

At this point, I had already retrieved most of my personal items from the business but I still had the key. Before I left my meeting with the owner, I started to take the key off my chain and ask if he wanted it back. He goes, “no, I don't want it. If GM wants it back, he can ask for it.” and told me that the GM had already tried to get the locks changed and he said no and told him if he was worried about it to ask me for my key back.

Well, it will be one year in October and I still have the key. I still have friends who work there so I know for a fact they have not changed the locks.

When I've gone to visit my friends on a few occasions, the GM has seen me and not said a word. He avoids me like the plague. One time, he got coffee for my friend (who still works there) and had one of the servers bring it over because I was at the bar talking to her.

I still find it absolutely hilarious that a 45 year old grown man was not only intimidated by me (25F) but also did everything in his power to not have to have a single interaction with me after he fired me.
