Over the summer, I got a job at a Lowes. I worked at a Home Depot in my local town for most of my high school career so I thought nothing of it when I applied. I wish I knew what was to come.
On my second day, right after training, I got yelled at by another employee for not organizing boxes the way he wanted me to. He cursed at me, and I was genuinely afraid he was going to hit me. After de-escalating the situation, I went to management who did NOTHING. When I told them I was scared for my safety, they told me I was “overreacting.” However, due to the decent pay and a good department supervisor, I stayed for another two weeks. During this time, I noticed the store was beyond repair. Nothing was organized, nothing was where it was supposed to be, and there were boxes learning over the isles just ready to fall. During my brief time there, I did my best to help the store. I learned to help in as many departments as possible and was frequently mentioned in positive customer surveys. Despite this, management never gave me any appreciation for my hard work. Later on, I was yelled at by cashiers twice for trying to help until I was ultimately threatened by another employee for trying to help a customer right before closing. I immediately grabbed my things and left. I haven't been back.
I've never worked in such a hostile environment in my life, and it's seriously affected me. I can barely sleep due to some of the things said to me there. If I can help just one person, please listen to me, DON'T APPLY TO LOWE'S!
TLDR: I was yelled at and threatened frequently by fellow employees, and management didn't do a damn thing about it. I still can't sleep due to some of the things said to me.
