Unemployment is actually at record lows in the US, people are working, and on top of that, I look around and see that almost everywhere is hiring. Granted, wages are still stagnant compared to inflation, but there's definitely people still working and there's no actual resistance towards it, besides maybe slowdowns caused by people being unmotivated to do their jobs.
Someone could say “that's what we mean” but that's a little more nuanced than what is typically discussed surrounding, for example, small restaurants struggling to find workers. They're struggling to find workers because it seems that the workforce just isn't large enough to support the size of the US economy. It seems most likely that we simply have an unstoppably shrinking amount of workers for a variety of reasons (death by disease, accidents, low birth rates/immigration, etc.). It could also be that our speculative economy is simply too large to be supported by the real hands on deck we have.
