For the last few years I’ve maintained two jobs part time, one small family business and one large corp business, for the benefit of working with a small team who (I thought) appreciated and cared about me and one who gave be benefits and paid vacation. I always thought working for a small business was worth it and ‘not like other jobs’.
After seven years I came into work to hear my boss (small business) degrading me and saying lies about me to a coworker. I (obviously) got angry, told them I deserve and apology or I’ll never be back and left. Never got an apology and never went back. This was at the end of November.
Fast forward to now and I have yet to receive a W2 to file my taxes. I contacted them multiple times and couldn’t get a response other than ‘we sent it out in January’. So I contacted them again yesterday and they fought with me saying they can’t reprint it, they have no access to it bc I’m not on payroll anymore, there’s nothing they can do, blah blah blah. I knew that was all a lie because I used to send out their W2’s and had reprinted them when mistakes were made multiple times. So I called their payroll company and told them they were withholding my tax information. I had a copy of my W2 within the hour.
These people often talk about how ‘no one wants to work anymore.’
How can you ever expect people to want to work for you when you treat your employees like garbage and punish them for refusing your abuse? I was the highest paid person there at $14/hr, I did literally everything for them and worked on my days off and through lunches often, took their daughter and grandmother to drs appointments etc. They made me feel like they considered me family and then shit all over me when it was convenient, then tried to (illegally) punish me for refusing their bad treatment.
Never again.
