I worked part time at my place of employment (it’s quite large with a lot of different areas and departments) for about 3 years, minus some time during covid, at minimum wage for anywhere from 15 to 30 hours a week. I really liked my job and I got very good at it, to the point where I actually helped create the manual on how to do my job, lol. They even had me help rewrite the policies.
For reasons beyond my control, I had to leave that position, and they basically handed me a full time (salaried) job in a completely different department. I am still learning this job. It’s very difficult and I don’t think I’m well-suited for it, and to be honest, it’s 10x the amount of work I did at my old job, and the pay is a joke. Plus my coworkers keep making racist jokes.
Now they’re extremely short staffed in my old department and I am the only other person left working at this establishment ANYWHERE who knows how to do that job. They’ve asked me to work part time there for an hourly wage that is yet to be determined. They’re estimating 10 hours a week.
What’s a fair amount to ask for, or refuse to work for less than? I’m already working overtime this month and I’m honestly a little pissed, because I OFFERED to stay at my previous department if they created a full time position for me.
And I know I could say no, but I genuinely want to help the people I would be helping if I took the job. And again, it’s way less work and I already know how to do it.
