I was fired yesterday
I was fired from my job yesterday. My boss was manipuating company policy to target on of my employees. This employee took the day off to go get tested for covid as they were exposed and feeling symptomatic. My boss wanted me to write this employee up for excessive absences. Her first occurrence was the flu and I told her to take the day off because she was throwing up. The second occurrence was an unforseen hospital visit due to a cat bite on her hand getting infected and spreading. The third occurrence was a family emergency. Her fourth occurrence was food poisoning and I again told her to take the day off. COVID was her 5th. All of these took place over a span of three months. I informed her boss, who told me to go to HR. HR then clarified that the company does not care what the circumstances are surrounding any unscheduled PTO, the third occurrence starts diciplinary action. So I apologized to HR saying I was under the impression they valued their employees health and safety first and took full responsibility for not writing this employee up after her third occurrence. I then emailed my team the clarification of the policy as it was explained to me and further apologized to them for misinterpreting the company's values and policies. I was fired the next morning. Mind you, I've never been in trouble at this job before. Never had a verbal warning. Never been written up. Nothing. So at the end of the day, I was fired out of retaliation for sticking up for an employee who was being bullied and outing the company for not giving a shit about their employees. I hate corporate America.
