Teachers and support staff are on strike. One of my jobs is in childcare.
“You know that you don’t need strike on the first day, right? You can come in and work and strike later if you want. I think most people will come into work and strike later”
When teachers went remote from March 2020 through February 2021 our Governor declared a peace time emergency order for school to remain open for childcare. Childcare staff provided this critical service. This will be the first time that I have been away from work for more than 4 days during the entirety of the pandemic. Our union had a 98% yes vote.
Yes I could have been a scab, but no thank you.
