Antiwork

I was guilted into staying the duration of my shift instead of going to the hospital.

I work at a fast food restaurant in Australia, I’m 18 and today I had a 5pm-1am shift (which is a closing shift) and halfway through I started noticing the symptoms of a UTI, which I get pretty frequently. I told my manager that I had a UTI and she was sympathetic enough, but every time I asked to go to the bathroom she became obviously annoyed, and told me to stop drinking as much as water. Now to preface this, when I feel angry I start crying, so I was crying all throughout the latter half of my shift, I felt awful and I asked to leave twice but each time my manager told me if I left, everybody would be stuck closing for an extra hour and it would be my fault.

The pain got so bad that around 12am, I fainted while I was mopping, and I spilled water everywhere and when my manager found me she told me that I was making things harder for everybody. Of course I was?! I was barely able to clean up the mess and I don’t remember much around that time, I remember sitting on the floor but that’s about it.

I told my manager that I was going to the hospital. The pain was unbearable.

I didn’t wait for her answer, I just left. And I don’t think I’m going to go back.

I get paid to work, not to care.
