This is a small story from my experience working at my last job, which I was inspired to share with the recent donette post!
I recently quit my job. Multi-billion in net worth delivery logistics service here in Denmark, with the shittiest boss I've ever had the misfortune of working for, who harrassed me on my 2nd week working there, so that was fantastic.
Anyhow, we were at one point told that there was an upcoming quality check some time during the year, an audit, and that it was important but my boss wasn't nervous about it. Day comes, and our depot passes with flying colours, so much so in fact, we get a letter from my boss' boss.
The letter is something like, and this is paraphrasing:
“Hello everyone. It's a great day for this company. I've only worked here for 10 years, and I've never seen anything like this. I did the audit myself last year, but this year is something special! In this company's history, we've never scored this high on an audit ever before, in any depot that we have. It's brought me to the verge of tears, and I thank you all. Here's a reward for your fantastic work!”
So as my boss is standing there, letter in hand, the grand prize is brought in; muffins. We're given muffins for, what they claim to be, the historically highest audit they've ever had in company history. We scored a 90,9% by the way, and an 89% the year after, and that was the same story. No letter though, so I guess that was already below par.
Anyhow, I just wanted to share, as no one in my immediate vicinity really seemed to understand why I was pissed off. Our overhyped and 'nothing even comes close to this' grand Christmas bonus was 700DKK as well, but I'll let you convert that into your currency yourself.
My boss also had a VERY hard time taking constructive critique, despite asking for it. He wanted a pat on the back for his shitty ideas, and no less. Needless to say, I only worked there for half a year. It's easily the most dumbfounded I've been with a boss, who, by the way, completely ignored me when I told him I wanted to quit. I got no letter of recommendation, and he wouldn't let me know where I could return my work clothes. After 3 weeks of being ignored, I had to just show up at work with the keycard that I still had, and I dumped the clothes in front of him. He still didn't say a word and barely looked me in the eye. Great experience.
So anyway, those were just 2 stories from my last job. Thank you for reading, and hopefully laughing with me.
