i work on a sushi line, for context. ive been doing sushi on and off for about 3 years. we were just informed that any mistake, that cant be sold, will come out of the paycheck of whoever is responsible. no grace period or anything.
i feel like this isnt necessarily directed to us on sushi (its just me, and my apprentice that work the sushi line, and we rarely make mistakes that cant be fixed.), but i feel like its coming from a place of frustration towards our one server, who routinely screws up ringing things in. i believe i can talk some sense into the owner/my boss when i see her next, she has respected my input on other matters so far, and very much values me as a hard-to-replace employee.
im feeling very conflicted, because she has been a very good boss to me so far, going above and beyond to help me out in other things not relating to the job, promising raises every 3 months (i have worked here about a month and a half and she started me at a pretty good hourly rate + tips), allowing me to take off every date i have requested for future plans with no hesitation, and this job has really good pay for only having to work around 30 hours a week.
however, this announcement has put a really sour taste in my mouth. ive worked at plenty of restaurants, sushi and otherwise, from corporations to mom and pop and everything in between, and never have worked somewhere that instituted this type of policy. so, thoughts? is this even legal?
