I started a new job as a contractor with a big financial lender to tech startup companies, paying me more than my last job and I had started back on the 8th. I was still in training, and only feedback I received was “you should participate more in meetings, and if you need to step away please message your manager”. Most of the meetings were lecture/systems and I’d sometimes turn off my camera to stretch or get a drink but I was back within a minute and was always in earshot and would always ask good questions and show that I was involved.
Two weeks after my feedback I get a call from my recruiter who tells me he’s just the messenger and doesn’t know why, but that the client has decided to terminate my contract starting immediately. No warning, everything was friendly warm smiles, I was working hard to keep this job and then we go to lunch and I get the call. It’s work from home and so luckily I could go talk to my wife after about this but this really throws a wrench into things.
I hate right to work states. No warning and yet they want people to give 2 weeks notice. I wish instead of firing people they would just refer them to other work.
