Antiwork

I was laid off a week after requesting work accomodation for my newly diagnosed illness. Might be homeless soon so I wrote a poem.

We've all got the same 24 hours Or at least that's what we've been told But I think mine might be different than yours Since I'm stranded outside in the cold. We've all got the same 24 hours Did your parents tell you that line? There might be a small flaw in that logic Since I never got to know mine. We've all got the same 24 hours That's what that big CEO said As he counted his stocks and his profits And I used a sidewalk for my bed. We've all got the same 24 hours If we choose well, we'll all have enough So you drive to your job and put in your best work While I'm still too sick to get up. We've all got the same 24 hours You've heard it now time after time But we've all been dealt a different hand So I hope…

We've all got the same 24 hours
Or at least that's what we've been told
But I think mine might be different than yours
Since I'm stranded outside in the cold.
We've all got the same 24 hours
Did your parents tell you that line?
There might be a small flaw in that logic
Since I never got to know mine.
We've all got the same 24 hours
That's what that big CEO said
As he counted his stocks and his profits
And I used a sidewalk for my bed.
We've all got the same 24 hours
If we choose well, we'll all have enough
So you drive to your job and put in your best work
While I'm still too sick to get up.
We've all got the same 24 hours
You've heard it now time after time
But we've all been dealt a different hand
So I hope now you know
It's a lie.
