I was employed for this UK based company for 3 months last year when my colleague who was also a new hire got into trouble with management for 2 things. First, she got covid and they didn’t believe her even after sending photos of her positive test, second for making spelling mistakes in posts and emails despite having dyslexia. It lead to her being investigated for gross misconduct. She asked me to accompany her. At the disciplinary meeting we were asked to sign NDAs. The boss said horrid things like “dyslexia is not a disability” and “we believe you’ve edited the (test) photos”. She immediately asked for legal advice and threatened to sue for discrimination. She was suspended from work but kept in touch with me. She told me she got a settlement sum in the end. One day a while later, on my lunch break, I was telling another colleague about the sum she got and my manager listened in. I was immediately pulled into an investigation and suspended. I then got fired for “breaking confidentiality”. What was that??? Only now I am starting to process everything. Was that NDA even enforceable if it covered up the boss being discriminatory?
