Hey guys, I am a (new) team lead in the call center office where I work, and I have been looking at this sub for awhile now. I just wanna say that I am 100% in agreement with everything this subreddit stands for. There is something majorly screwed up with how this whole thing works. Now on to my personal contribution.
I used to be a coach in the office and I worked hourly at that point. I took as much overtime as I could and it really helped out with extra expenses in life like car payments and such. After the higher ups saw how much overtime they were paying out to me they approached me saying 'Hey we've seen how hard youve been working. You know there's an open position as a coach, right? You should apply!”
Being the naive idiot I am I agreed and applied for the new position. I got the job, and they switched me to being salaried almost immediately. The only problem though is that this means no more overtime. I am making a bit more when it comes to base pay, but each paycheck is only about half as much now in the long run. I tried to bring this up to my boss and she said 'oh don't worry, now that you're a team lead you'll be getting a monthly bonus too!”. I just got my first bonus after 2 months in the position. It was $250. Now I got all this extra duties I gotta do and I'm not even allowed any extra time to do it.
Tl;Dr: management promoted me because they were paying me for too much overtime. Now I'm not allowed to take any more overtime and I'm getting paid less because of it.
