I was refused a job position at a BIG 4 Accounting firm because of my immigration status (F-1 student). I have work authorization.

I interned this summer at a BIG 4 accounting firm, a job offer was contingent at the end of the internship (yesterday). 2 weeks ago all interns were given a link to apply to the analyst position. when I was filing out my application I accidently selected “yes” for the option ” would you now or in the future require sponsorship to work? 2 days ago the recruiter reached out and said why I picked that option, to which I answered that it is an error and if she could kindly change that. She said that she will notate what I said but is unable to change it.

yesterday all the other interns got an offer and I was told that despite me having a positive performance review from my manager and project lead, I would not be getting an offer solely because I made that error on the application.

she explained that they cannot change the error and BECAUSE of my immigration status (f-1 student) so they cannot offer me the position. I believe this is illegal according IRCA 1986.

what can I do about this my people?
