I live in Austria, und luckily, many of the issues discussed in this sub aren't as pronounced over here.
However…
I was applying for a job for a big American software testing company that also has an office in Vienna. Pay seemed good, so I figured, why not.
My first interview literally took five minutes and was with some first level recruiting lady. She asked me about my salary range, and that was basically it. She couldn't answer any of my questions (not even if this was a fully remote position) and was telling me to wait for the hiring manager.
Her job seems to be to write a short summary about me, because that is what she asked me to do for her. So I literally copied the most important five lines from my CV (which she had, ofc) and sent them to her.
The next thing I heard from them was an assignment that I should prepare for a next interview. Extremely basic in its difficulty, but still a considerable amount of work. And something that could potentially have value for them.
So they weren't even able to tell me if this was a remote job yet, but were expecting me to do a full assignment for them.
I was answering them with a rather unfriendly email. I was just reminded why I don't want to work for big American corporations. Something just doesn't click between me and those…
