I was terminated from my government contract due to speaking out about mental health of staff on “R U OK Day”.

As caption states, I was terminated from my contract in a government rule due to speaking out about mental health. As a contractor we obviously don’t have access to sick leave/annual leave- we also didn’t have the option of FT/PT work, only contract. On R U OK day, I spoke to a team leader and said if she was aware of mental health days contractors could be eligible for. She said she wasn’t aware of anything like that. I continued to say it was upsetting that we care so much about our clients mental health then that of our staff. Well that was enough to terminate my contract the very next day. I was told by my agency I wasn’t allowed to have an interview or speak to anyone from the government regarding this and that what I spoke about doesn’t align with the company’s values. So the facade that Government or any business give a shit about their employers mental health is completely fabricated. The second I spoke up about it I was terminated 24 hours later.
Moral of the story, don’t speak up about your personal beliefs in a workplace setting.
