yeah this is completely ridiculous and a bit of a long winded story but what do i have to lose at this point. i work for a very small company where the manager and owner are related (father and son). i have bpd that can make communication on issues in the workplace incredibly hard so, when i was having issues with respect and communication, i went to my HR rep and asked for a mediated meeting with the owner, manager, HR and myself. i asked for the accommodation of waiting a week or so to give me time to gather my thoughts so i could effectively talk about the issue.
well that following monday i’m called into the breakroom and essentially ambushed by my manager and owner of the company. they demanded i talk about the issue and, when i tried to explain i have bpd and needed this accommodation, i was told “you should have disclosed your disability to us when you began working here and it may have affected us hiring you in the first place”.
also, apparently we didn’t have an HR rep. even though the person i went to completed all other hr duties. and the owner was HR.
theres been a lot of issues at this job to be frank and at that point i was pretty fed up with it all but decided to stick it out because i knew i would be leaving to return to school in the next year or so. i got pretty depressed with family things and was (as the owner stated while firing me) “cold and distant” for just wanting to put my head down and complete my work.
well today they let me drive into work before they called me into the breakroom and promptly fired me for “attitude problems that were affecting my quality of work”. quantifiably incorrect because i log what i do and have my results documented. so yeah. happy friday to me i suppose.
