I wasn’t told it was a temp position

So this is kind of a long story. Grab a snack and strap in. I applied to this healthcare place (I wont be sharing real names as I don’t feel comfortable doing so) and at the interview was told I’d be replacing someone who was leaving. She was leaving to work somewhere with better pay (should’ve seen the red flag there but 🤷‍️). She trained me for a week and left. From the beginning I was only given one type of exam to call for (job was as a scheduler), but I thought this was normal as I was new. Well, fast forward to about two months. Earlier this week, I noticed that the other scheduler (it’s only her, the main scheduler, and I who schedule) we’ll call her Debbie, was in the office of the main scheduler a lot laughing it up all buddy-buddy.

That’s when I started to notice things.

When I thought about it, shouldn’t I have been given other types of exams to call and schedule by now? My work list is up to date and the minute I get new orders I start calling to get them scheduled. Almost all of the other orders that come in are given to Debbie. I almost only get the Spanish-speaking ones. I even went the extra mile to make a note in the chart to say SPANISH-SPEAKING. The main scheduler (we’ll call her Gricelda) is also always giving updates about Dr schedules and techs being out and machines being down, and I only find out because I overhear or because I get in trouble for scheduling something when someone is off. How does that make sense again?

Anyway, the director who hired me won’t even look me in the eye anymore. Half of my coworkers are keeping their distance. Debbie starts giving me this weird “my condolences” look since the beginning of this week. I start getting less and less orders. Gricelda starts being stand-offish and rude to me. I get the feeling that something is up. So yesterday I discreetly take my stuff home (I have a big purse and thankfully everything fit).

Last night during a FaceTime with my boyfriend (long distance, iykyk) I’m telling him this and how I’m contemplating just finishing this week out before leaving and I’d start looking for new jobs today. He gave me all the emotional support to do whatever I deemed best. This is one of the reasons I love him.

Anyway, cut to this morning and it looks like I no longer have to decide. Before coming in to work this morning (about 30 minutes before open), I get a call. It’s Gricelda. What she said was among the lines of “Hey so we saw that you already took your stuff home. I was gonna let you go this Friday but I might as well do it now. This position was temporary while we aclimate Debbie to take on the work of 2 schedulers. We noticed while Tiffany (the name I’m gonna call the girl who I replaced) was here she wouldn’t be here a lot and that we really didn’t need two schedulers. So we were only gonna keep you about two weeks.”

I have to go in Friday to get my second to last check.

Edit: I also never got an email, the password to the voicemail box on my extension, and when the new fax system was updated 2 weeks ago, I “no longer had access” as told by the system.
