I’m a hiring manager for lab techs and supervisors, So far I’ve got about 50 applicants in my inbox and out of them only a few will get progressed to interviews. This isn’t because I’m looking for a unicorn or someone outstanding. It’s because people aren’t aware of their value, as for the lab tech position I’ve got people applying with master’s degrees and PhDs they are even asking for terribly low salaries, and it’s made worse by HR deliberately low balling successful applicants. Which is beyond insulting. To me it is completely disgusting to even comprehend the idea of hiring someone who has spent 3-7 years at school to be lumped with a terrible paying entry level lab tech role.
I’d like it for people to know they are worthy of an employer who will respect them enough to pay them a living wage and not take advantage of their desperation to get a job while struggling with increasing CoL and exploitative rents by ever greedy landlords.
It’s self serving but all these applicants are taking a toll, as I can’t go against my own ethics and morals and exploit these people just to placate my managers.
