I wonder if my boss lied about his degree and work history

My boss supposedly has a PhD and calls himself “Dr.” on Teams, which I’ve never seen anyone do in a workplace before. (This is not a medical or educational company). He has absolutely no idea what he’s doing on the job. He’s supposed to be our team lead but cannot do even the simplest of tasks. I’ve worked in places before where I didn’t always think my boss was the the most deserving of their position, but this goes beyond that. Frankly, the level of his incompetence is baffling. At least Michael Scott was a decent salesman. I feel like I’m working for Dr. Michael Scott but without the redeeming affinity for some aspect of his work.

Is it possible that he’s stolen someone else’s identity?
