I work as a software developer. This past year, because of Covid, the work that was scheduled for my project was canceled. My manager offered me the opportunity to go and assist another project that was not going to meet its project deadline. I gladly accepted as it would be a great opportunity for learning. During my time on this project (Dec 2020 – Sept 2021) I learned an entire new tech stack, helped us meet our project deadline, and even assisted on another contract, getting the work done months before the deadline. With the work done, I moved back to my original team, to assist with the work that was now going forward. All of this lead up to today where I found up what kind of raise/bonus I would be getting for the work I had done.
My raise was 20$ more than last years. My bonus was 100$ more.
My personal score was lower than last years. My manager told me it was based on co-worker feedback, and my coworkers felt that I was not experienced enough with our technology, ignoring the context that I had been learning it while trying to meet my deliverables on this project. My manager (who was the lead on the project I worked on, did not dispute this). I am furious as I worked way harder than I had the previous year (My team had no work from March of 2020 until fall of 2021)
I worked countless hours of overtime, went above and beyond what was expected of my position because this company supposedly recognizes the hard work it's employees does. It's obvious to me it doesn't. I guess it's time to start updating the resume.
Sorry for the rant, I just needed to vent.
