i would love working if i could work for my community

like imagine living in an entirely self-sufficient city, with a trading favours and goods system instead of a monetary one. i could wake up, water the garden and pick food to feed myself and my neighbours, then get to work on sewing clothes to trade for a mechanic to fix that mysterious blinking light on my dash, or a turkey from the farmer down the road, or a nice new set of dishes from a friend who loves pottery. internet and cell service would be trickier to measure payment for, but of course, this is just a wishful fantasy of mine and not some analytical capitalist takedown. i just hate working for some rich guy when i'm literally physically wearing myself down and hurting myself every week for just enough money to pay the bills. it's exhausting. i want my job to feel fulfilling, and at the end of the…
