I just graduated this spring and got a great job in finance. I interned on the same team last year and it was incredibly chill and sub-40 hours per week. When I accepted my offer, I thought it would be a somewhat chill start to my career.
Boy, was I wrong. Every week I’ve been here has been busier than the one before. My co-workers often work until 10-11pm at night and sometimes on Sundays as well. The other day I got yelled at for 3 numbers that were slightly off (not even 1% each) which caused me to have an anxiety attack for the first time in almost a decade. And the next two weeks will just be busier and more high stakes.
I’m making a lot for an entry level position, but I really don’t think I can work 60, high-paced hours per week for the rest of my career. It’s been 6 months—how am I supposed to be overworked and over-stressed for the next 40 years?
