i’d have to be stupid to keep working here

when i first started this job last holiday season, i was doing one specific task and working about 30 hours a week. i loved it! it was physical work but very satisfying and invigorating. then christmas came and went and the deliveries i'd been working on slowed down. i was trained for other work, did well and was given a full-time position. i was also happy with this arrangement but then they started fucking with me. in one given day, i work (almost simultaneously) three jobs now. i usually have to unload or process part of a delivery, get whatever was on that delivery out on the floor and get called to work the cash while i do it all. last week after unloading a particularly full truck, i was sent to be on cash. i was tired and sweaty and serving customers while thinking 'you know this is bullshit,…

when i first started this job last holiday season, i was doing one specific task and working about 30 hours a week. i loved it! it was physical work but very satisfying and invigorating. then christmas came and went and the deliveries i'd been working on slowed down. i was trained for other work, did well and was given a full-time position. i was also happy with this arrangement but then they started fucking with me. in one given day, i work (almost simultaneously) three jobs now. i usually have to unload or process part of a delivery, get whatever was on that delivery out on the floor and get called to work the cash while i do it all.

last week after unloading a particularly full truck, i was sent to be on cash. i was tired and sweaty and serving customers while thinking 'you know this is bullshit, right?' i stepped back from it all and was like 'how the fuck did i get here? how have i been convinced to work this hard for minimum wage?' looking at it all, i concluded i'd have to be an absolute moron to stay.

i know all jobs are pretty much going to be bullshit and there's no real escape from that, but there are creative solutions to at least water down this bullshit. in a way, working minimum wage is just lazy. like, not for the amount of work you do, but for not thinking of something else. bullshit jobs are really easy to just walk into if you have nothing else happening. i started this job because i wanted to and had nothing better going on, now i don't want to and am ready for my next project and have thought of many better things to do. next friday is my two weeks notice.
