If a recession is coming, why you should NOT stay at your job

Keep seeing all these articles about the coming recession and how it’s best to stay put instead of taking a better offer.Personally I think that’s a terrible idea and I think they write those article another way to coerce people into staying in crappy conditions. If a recession is coming, do you want to be stuck at your shitty job, or your new (hopefully less shitty) job that pays more? If you have the opportunity now take it. Also if you’re laid off it’s better to have a higher salary that unemployment is calculated from. Also in my observation most companies do not do the last in/first out layoff thing, it’s more the other way around to get rid of expensive people , or sometimes poorer performers. Loyalty to a company will get you nothing. I observed this often at my last job. We had many loyal employees who had…

Also in my observation most companies do not do the last in/first out layoff thing, it’s more the other way around to get rid of expensive people , or sometimes poorer performers. Loyalty to a company will get you nothing. I observed this often at my last job. We had many loyal employees who had been there 20+ years, and after shifts in business practice and management they were the first out the door. Usually my company would hire a brand new person to “help” in that role, then eliminate the senior role. Many people were laid off a few months-years before retirement after working 70+ hours weeks (unpaid) through COVID. The crazy thing is this job takes a solid 2 years to learn so the new people either flounder and end up being coerced to quit (after our company cuts their pay by like 20k as an incentive ) or they need a bunch of senior staff members supporting them including multiple mangers
