If I WFH, do I have to be productive for the whole time I’m scheduled to work? Will my employer know if I’m not?

I’m sorry if this is the wrong sub. I’m looking to get a WFH job, and I’ve got a couple questions about it. Let’s say I’m scheduled to work 8 hours a day. If I can complete my work and do a good job on it within 6-7 hours, then can I then take the other 1-2 hours of work to do what I want? I know a lot of employers use tracking software to monitor productivity. Do employers usually bother checking this software, or is it only checked if an employee isn’t performing to standard? If it helps, I’m looking for jobs in editing/content writing.
