if yall want me to work overtime, you better pay double

The way I see it, when I take on a full time job and am paid a certain salary and benefits, I should be fine financially. I should be able to look at my salary and go “okay, so I earn this much, can spend this much on rent and utilities, this much on food, this much on going out and this much is savings” And the time I'm not at office is the time I can do whatever I want. The way I see it, when I take on a full time job and am paid a certain salary and benefits, I should be fine financially.

I should be able to look at my salary and go “okay, so I earn this much, can spend this much on rent and utilities, this much on food, this much on going out and this much is savings”

And the time I'm not at office is the time I can do whatever I want. Whether it's hosting an orgy or crying in the shower or travelling to meet family. I don't care.

But if you are a good company, that means full time employment at your offices mean that I am financially secure. The nature of work full time means I am obviously drained at the end of the work week and the rest of my time is to recharge and enjoy my life.

That means, I am not incentivized to work beyond those 40 hours and doing so eats into my free time. So you are forcing me to work extra and eating into my free time. Add to that, the fact that if you need me working overtime regularly, as do my colleagues, it probably means we are understaffed and overworked. So you better pay more.

Point is, I'd take X dollars and hour for full time work cause I have the time and energy for it. But beyond that, I don't. And the price of my labor goes up since situations change.

The sad fact is, the only “incentive” I have would he to keep my job. The fact that we feel pressured to work beyond the conditions of our contracts for horrible companies run by assholes who've maybe never worked in their life is bullshit. And that “incentive” is just coercion
