If you don’t like it then leave

We were told we had to return to the office despite growth in sales working from home. The entire team preferred working from home for a variety of reasons and we were doing it effectively. My boss blamed HR. We confronted him and ask repeatedly and respectfully to let us WFH. He finally broke and said “this is what we’re doing, if you don’t like it there’s the door.” 30% of the team has given notice. Yesterday I accepted a new role. I lead the team so when I was asked by him “is this really what you want?” I couldn’t help but laugh and tell him “this is what we ALL want. More of the remaining team are interviewing elsewhere this week.”
